|NASW Standards for Integrating Genetics into Social Work Practice
NASW Standards for Integrating Genetics into Social Work Practice recognize and respond to the expanded information on the human genome and its impact on social work practice and education. They are designed to enhance awareness of the skills, knowledge, values, methods, and sensitivity needed to work effectively with clients, families, health care providers, and the community in the area of genetics. Nine standards cover ethics and values, genetics knowledge, practice skills, client/practitioner collaborative practice model, interdisciplinary practice, self-awareness, genetics and cross-cultural knowledge, research, and advocacy.
