The Indicators for the Achievement of the NASW Standards
for Cultural Competence in the Social Work Profession are designed as an extension of
the Standards to provide additional guidance on the implementation and
realization of culturally competent practice. The achievement of cultural competence is an
ongoing process. Although these indicators describe an ideal state, the National Committee
on Racial and Ethnic Diversity (NCORED) encourages social work practitioners and agency
leaders to put forth good faith efforts to use them. Information is also available online
at www.socialworkers.org.
